2010 Como, CO Day Trip

One the main reasons I chose to move to Colorado was for the photographic opportunities. I'm fascinated with historic buildings. Restored or in a state of disrepair doesn't matter to me at all as long as they are photogenic.

The Como Roundhouse was built in 1879 by Denver, South Park and Pacific Railroad to support silver mining. It was closed in 1937 with the railroad. It's currently being renovated along with other buildings that were part of the railroad depot.

After the GPS led us a little astray onto an ice covered road and after Zach nearly slid down said ice sheet, we found our way to Montgomery.

This is what's left of the Montgomery mining camp, which was founded in 1861. The gold played out shortly after. The rest the town was flooded by the Montgomery Reservoir in the 1890s.

Mt. Lincoln, named after President Lincoln, sits above the reservoir.

Here are some "action shots" that I promised to take and post. He managed to fish a little after 2 near death experiences that day: The above mentioned duel with the ice sheet and nearly being gored by an angry bull that didn't much like his choice of fishing holes. Sadly enough, I wasn't able to memorialize either episode.

Thanks for the invite and for driving, Zach.
