Florida's Landscapes, Cityscapes and Buildings

The subject of the photos below is the city of Jacksonville, taken from the south side of the St Johns River. It was our first stop on the vacation and turned out to be a great starting place. As you can see Jacksonville is a very picturesque city. The Main Street Bridge looks incredible when lit up with its 30+ ft tall neon panels that cycle through different colors. These are some panoramas made of multiple shots blended together using Photoshop CS2.

St Augustine, the nation's oldest city, was our second target city. It's located about 60 miles south of Jacksonville. We were rained out the first day, so it turned into a 2 day trip. These shots are of Flagler College in the center of St. Augustine. Flagler College began as the Hotel Ponce de Leon built in 1887 by Henry Flagler, New York entrepreneur and cofounder of Standard Oil.

This is the Lightner Museum located just south of Flagler College. It began as the Hotel Alcazar, again built by Henry Flagler. It now houses an extensive collection of Victoriana.

The St Augustine Lighthouse first turned its light on in 1874 and is currently still active. It stands 165 ft above sea level. Visitors can climb its 219 stairs and stand next to the light. I chose to take a pass on that option.

Tampa was our last stop and home base for the last 6 days of the vacation. These shots are of downtown Tampa at the University of Tampa. Tampa was not as good of a subject as Jacksonville, but we made do. We took a day trip to Orlando to visit Universal Studios, but the camera stayed home on that trip.
