July 2007 Oregon Coast Trip
|
I was itching for a little photo road trip pretty badly. It was over a month since I last had my camera in my hands, so it was time. I chose the coast because I love lighthouses and Oregon has some of the most spectacular examples found in the US. The first stop was Newport and the Yaquina Bay Lighthouse. It sits perched over the entrance to Newport Harbor. And as you can see combines both the light and the keeper's house. |

Newport, while being a major tourist trap, is also a fishing town. I decided to stop at the harbor hoping that there would be some picturesque fishing boats. I was pleased to find so many interesting subjects. I think this stop produced the trip's best images. |

The last stop on the trip was Heceta Head Lighthouse. It's one of the country's most photographed lighthouses. It sits atop a cliff overlooking a small bay. Unlike the Yaquina Bay Lighthouse the keeper's house is separate from the light and is now a bed and breakfast. I planned a few panoramas from the cliff across the bay, but the high wind and poor sunset spoiled all the images. |
