Ye Forest Inne in Forest Glen, MD
|
The "Ye Forest Inne" at the Seminary has seen many faces. The main building opened in 1887 as an upscale inn. In 1894, is along with other added buildings was turned into a women's finishing school. Then in 1942, it was taken over by the Army to serve as a convalescent facility for soldiers returning from the war. The area is currently planned to become upscale condos due to its location close to Washington, D.C. The inn is one the Nation Register of Historic Places, but is in disrepair. I hope that it is preserved as the architecture is simply awesome. We weren't able to enter the inn, but it's suppose to still house a few spectacular fireplaces and stained glass. However, there are many stories of vandalism so their condition could be quite poor. |
